Rc and Springer were at the Parrot Club meeting on Friday. People ooed and Aawwwwed at them and someone even shared their millet as the stinkers were feeling a tad gluttonous, LOL. We won a boat load of toys, as usual, which Rc's mom, Katey, will appreciate.
I took down the nest box as it was waaaaay too early to have it up for the conures. They're only 5 months old as of this writing! They should be able to breed in October/November. I'm really excited about breeding them as I've not bred conures since 2007 and I'm hoping (Pretty pretty please, dear Gods) that they'll bring in some cash that goes towards my future Service Dog. My first rule of breeding is that you never make money breeding. I understand the many things that can go wrong. However, the wee bit of cash I'd be getting back from my conure chicks after food, hospital visits (if any) and what not are factored in, is significantly more than what I'd get for my cockatiels. I plan on being a dang fine breeder and to me, money is not first on my list of things to obsess about. Well socialized, healthy chicks are. And I have some pretty big shoes to fill after meeting the likes of Pam Golding (Pam's Busy Beaks Aviary) and Barbara Miller (Soltia Aviary)!
Another thing that's going to be new with me is DNA sexing the conure chicks. I've never had to DNA my babies before and I would like to start. Especially as some of my conure colors are going for a little under $500 a chick! I can afford to DNA sex the chicks!
So that's it for today :) Rc and Springer updates are always happening on the Domnijoe Pets 'N Art Aviary FB group and videos are common on my Youtube account. Just check out my social media icons on the home page and contacts page ;)
