Pagan Advent

Generally, Christians celebrate the start of advent on the fourth Sunday before Christmas. In 2017 that falls on December 3rd. As both the pagan and Christian traditions call on the birth of the Son/Sun as a light that brings light to the world, I enjoy blending my pagan traditions with that of Advent. Ideally pagan advent starts four Sundays before solstice, which really depends on when solstice lands in any given year. Which makes 2017's first advent November 26th.

Just like the Christian tradition, a single candle is lit per advent until all four are lit . A fifth is lit on Solstice day. I can imagine the great sun magic that can be done at this time. Calling in of the sun, prayer for renewal and glad tiding to others, and of course Santa and those darn Reindeer. :)
