So yeah, I'm trying to become a real world Jedi. They're a misunderstood bunch, as a lot of people think they run around believing they can move things around with the Force and worship the movies. Truth is that it's more of a philosophy than anything. One that I share most of my beliefs with. The only real similarity with the movies is that there's a belief in the Force, which is more like the pagan concept of magic than anything. It permeates everything and flows through us all. I call it the Great Mystery. Same stuff, different pile :) They don't believe in torture or the death penalty, they believe in training the mind through meditation and there's an emphases on volunteering/helping others.
There's several layers to the training. The first is the IP training. You do those lessons and become an initiate when your application is accepted. When you get chose by a Knight for training, you become an Apprentice. Once you finish Apprenticeship you become a Knight. Train more than 3 people and you become a Master. We have our own clergy and pastors. It's all pretty cool :) Not perfect, but it's pretty cool.
