Cockatiels as Totem Animals

Writer: NL Conure FeatherDragonNL Conure FeatherDragon

Cockatiels are one of my totems from yeaaaars back. They're gentle compared to most other parrots, are less noisy and have an attitude that rightly gives it competing first place spot as most beloved pet bird with the Budgie (aka parakeet).

Cockatiels, or Weeros as they're also known in Australia, are nomadic birds who are opportunistic breeders. They breed when the rainy seasons start on the coasts on Australia then move inland when the weather becomes drier.

Symbolism wise, and this is speaking from my own experiences, they are flighty, curious, cheeky and expressive birds. They also have long memories. While they are normally easy to please and easy to tame, they can be a challenge to bond with if you do not have the patience. They are normally good parents but, just like with humans, abusive behavior can be taught through the generations. Cockatiel totems should watch what they eat, staying away or reducing their favorite foods for more veggies.
