It's been some years since I've used Cormorants as a Totem, but as information on them from a spiritual POV is so scarce, I thought I'd place a correspondence here.
Cormorants rule the emotions and symbolize the ability to navigate emotional tides. They have to come out from these pressures however, to dry off and relax. Cormorant people are known for sitting back and observing before plunging back into areas other people cannot or will not traverse. Their bodies are more equipped for swimming than for flying, but lack the oil in their feathers that keep their feathers able to stay dry. Like this, the totem can traverse the waters of emotion, but needs time to regulate their body from the stress of emotions.
Cormorants in China are trained to catch fish for their handlers and wear a special collar that prevents them from swallowing the fish. Cormorants are fact collectors and are willing to dive to great depths to get what you need. They appear in your life when you need to overcome obstacles or help people overcome the unknown. They also symbolize indulgence and Nobility.
They are cheery, busy birds, though are more stately than silly. They symbolize working together, as seen in their role as fisherman's helpers.
